How I choose products
How products get chosen and updated, and how I use AI, spelled out plainly.
How products get picked
I start with what families ask about, check patient-education guides from hospitals and public health sources, and read manufacturer specs. Then I narrow the list to products worth recommending.
What I've used, and what I research
- I've used a raised toilet seat, a cold therapy ice machine with a circulating water pump, a walker, and a leg elevation wedge pillow during my own ACL recovery. When I write about those, I share what I learned firsthand.
- For everything else, like grab bars, shower chairs, and tub transfer benches, I compare specs, measurements, and real buyer reviews. I say plainly which products I've used myself and which I haven't.
- I also know older adults who rely on this kind of gear, and I listen to what actually works for them.
- If a brand ever sends a free product, that page will say so.
- When I can, I talk with caregivers, and quote them only with permission.
- Post-surgery guides tell you to follow the surgeon's and therapist's instructions first, and won't give recovery timelines or restrictions of their own.
- When a licensed PT or OT reviews a page, they're credited by name with their permission. If no one reviewed it, the page doesn't say otherwise.
Health information
Every health or safety statement links to a named source, like CDC, ADA standards, or a hospital patient guide. I don't claim any product prevents falls. When something is a medical question, I say so and point you to the right professional.
How I use AI
I use AI tools to help outline guides, organize manufacturer specs into tables, suggest common questions, and draft first versions. I then rewrite in my own words, check every health statement against its source, and add what I learned from my own experience. AI doesn't decide which products I recommend. Nothing is published without my review and my name on it.
Updates and corrections
Each guide shows the date it was last updated. I recheck products and sources over time and fix errors as soon as I learn about them. To report a mistake, contact me.
Money and independence
